«Obsession»

Choreography: Stefanie Olbort

Stage Design: Tim Goossens

Duration: ~35 min | Production Year: 2020

Obsession is a project, which examines the psyche of a serial killer with 23 personalities through the language of music and dance. The music is written for Female Voice, Violoncello, Organ and Electronics. The story of the piece centers around three characters, the killer, “the woman” and the victim, and their relationships towards one another. “The woman” is one of the 23 personalities, but she’s not aware of that. She emancipates herself completely from her creator, the serial killer, throughout the piece. The performance is divided into three main scenes, a prologue and an epilogue. Each scene focuses on another relationship and has its own music and dance style. The composer worked with different techniques such as music collage, risset rhythm, transscripted improvisation, conceptual composition and variations on a motif.

The goal of the choreographer, stage designer and composer was, to create a multi-dimensional view on the fragile topic of serial killers and their abnormal obsession and lust to kill.
