About Me

Combining music and dance

David Eliah Bangerter, born 1998 in Zurich, studied Composition for Film, Theater and Media at the Zurich University of the Arts and finished his bachelor studies in 2020. For his bachelor project Obsession he received top mark. He will soon start his master studies in composition with specialization in dance. For his final thesis, he looked into the subject of neoclassicistic ballet music and Kurt Weill’s music for The seven deadly sins. In the beginning of his work he concentrated on film music and composed the music for advertising spots for Cartoon Network and the Swiss Science Center Technorama, which were created in a collaboration with students from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

"I often use mathematical algorithms and geometrical shapes to construct my music."

During the seminar “Rhythmus und Timing am eigenen Leib”, under the guidance of Dr. Steffen Schmidt and Anna Huber, he found his love for dance and was part of several dance productions, as a composer. 2019 he created a sound composition for the dance performance Lanyard, by the choreographer Stefanie Olbort. During the performance, music was live edited with the use of electro acoustic methods and the sound was projected in 3D space. In the same year, he composed a piano piece in minimal style for the performance Chrysalis, which was choreographed by Winston Arnon and was realized with dancers from Zurich University of the Arts.
