Lanyard is a 15-minute long aerial performance for two dancers and four speakers. It follows the different stages of a freedivers journey, diving up to 100 meters under the sea level. During the performance, a dancer is rappeled down the ceiling, while a second dancer on ground tries to connect with the hanging dancer. Both share a pas de deux, as soon as the first dancer is on the ground. For the musical background, the composer used “ypsilon” by Ólafur Arnalds as a base and started reconstructing it with programmed audio effects. The composer also worked with placing different notes, filtered from ocean sounds, around the audience using a 4.0 Audio Setup and calculating the points with the use of an icosahedron. The icosahedron is a platonic solid and is said to embody the element of water in ancient greek history.
